Impossible Flying has been described as perhaps Dawes' most daring and personal collection to date, and yet it has also been described as a work of immense scope and socio-political complexity. The poems explore themes of mental illness, familial complications, identity and place and the politics and social dynamics that shape all of these things.  Above all, it is a moving demonstration of what poetry can achieve when a poet decides to take risks in his work.
